Camping on Wheels is a small, local campervan rental in Lisbon: four hand-prepared camper vans — a VW T4 Westfalia with pop-up roof, a VW Transporter, a VW Santa Cruz and a Mercedes camper — rented from 60€ per day with the entire equipment list included instead of sold as extras. Every van leaves with a real kitchen (sink, running water, two-burner gas stove and a free gas cylinder), a proper bed with fresh linen, a fridge, curtains, a chemical toilet and an outdoor shower, plus table, chairs, parasol and beach gear. Our vans are based in Sacavém, in the Lisbon metropolitan area, one exit from the A1 and A8 and about 10 minutes from LIS airport by car. That position is deliberately practical for a campervan road trip in Portugal: Ericeira and Peniche are under an hour north, Sintra and the Costa da Caparica are 30 minutes south, Arrábida and Sesimbra are 45 minutes, and the Costa Vicentina begins about two hours from the pickup point. Driving south you reach Melides, Comporta, Zambujeira do Mar and Aljezur without ever backtracking through Lisbon, and north you can chain Nazaré, São Pedro de Moel, Figueira da Foz and Porto along the A17 and A1. No. Every van in our fleet is a category B passenger vehicle, so a normal car licence held for at least two years is enough, with a minimum driver age of 23. The largest van still fits in standard parking spaces, which matters in Lisbon, Sintra and the coastal villages.
Overnight stops in lay-bys, beaches and village centres are increasingly fined, so we hand over a list of legal campsites, motorhome areas and quiet spots we use ourselves, plus water, chemical-waste and grocery points along your route. That is why the road trip guides come with the van instead of being sold separately.
April to June and September to October give you warm sea water, empty beaches and daily rates well below peak July and August. Winter rentals are the cheapest of all and still work south of Setúbal, where the Costa Vicentina stays mild.
